Exceeding conventional expectations of an architect.
We are in the midst of unprecedented change. The COVID-19 pandemic has quickly changed the conventional thinking of cities, architecture and lifestyles, and we are required to adapt to this change as soon as possible in order to continue to thrive in the present. At BeCAT, through the lens of “environmental” and “social implementation,” we want to explore and instill within our students a new image of the architect who can react sensitively to the world and propose social frameworks beyond conventional building design.

Architecture as a collaborative activity sharing happiness
Buildings and cities are “objects” that humans have worked together to create, and will continue to exist visibly for a long time to come. Mankind has prospered by collaborating to create such big “objects”, and conversely, we are becoming content by participating in such collaborative activities themselves. At BeCAT, as the name implies, we combine Art and Technology to actualize and implement the wealth of research that universities have cultivated so far. We aim to make many people happy by sharing the academic theories as well as the collaborative activities to create these visible “objects” in the real world.

PROFESSOR, ARCHITECTHIROKAZU SUEMITSU
New environmental architecture by Design x Engineering.
The problems that are occurring in today’s society are becoming increasingly more complicated and complex. There are many things that cannot be solved by the architect’s design or the engineer’s technical ability alone. On the other hand, advanced information technology makes it possible to handle larger volumes of data. That suggests the possibility of solving pressing issues with cross-disciplinary technology while successfully linking design and engineering. At BeCAT, we would like to make full use of these various cutting edge tools to address social and environmental issues and create a new path for architects.
