  Going beyond the conventional image of an architect.

  We are currently in the midst of unprecedented change. The COVID-19 pandemic has quickly overturned the conventional wisdom of cities, architecture, and lifestyles, and we are being asked to adapt to these changes as soon as possible in order to survive in the present. With the themes of "environment" and "social implementation," BeCAT aims to explore with students a new type of architect who can respond sensitively to the world and go beyond architecture to propose social programs and social frameworks themselves.

  Architecture and cities are "things" that humanity has built together, and they remain in a visible form for a long time. Humanity has prospered by working together to create these large "things," and conversely, we have come to feel happy from the act itself. As the name suggests, BeCAT combines art and technology, and implements the accumulated research that universities have cultivated to date. We aim to make many people happy by sharing not only theory, but also the act of creating visible "things" in the real world.

  New environmental architecture.

  The problems occurring in today's society are becoming increasingly complex and multifaceted, and many of them cannot be solved by the design skills of architects alone, nor by the technical skills of engineers alone. On the other hand, advanced information technology makes it possible to handle more information and larger amounts of data, suggesting the possibility of solving these problems with interdisciplinary technology by linking design and engineering. At BeCAT, we hope to utilize these capabilities to tackle social and environmental issues and present a new way of being an architect.

  As we face an era of population decline and aging, and are aware of the limits of the global environment, it is time to move beyond a system that was premised on 20th century growth. In an era when population and capital are concentrated in cities all over the world and many people live lives far removed from history and nature, I feel that Kyushu has many possibilities for creating a new sustainable living environment. A life that does not aim solely for growth, but where occupation, lifestyle, culture and enjoyment coexist, while rediscovering the connections between cities, history and nature and nurturing new possibilities. I believe that my mission as an architect is to contribute even a little to creating such an environment.
